Kalayjian’s Ray of Creation series comes from a spiritual connection that the artist experiences with the universe from deep within himself. They are paintings of the vibrations inside everything that surrounds him as it is reflected from the cosmos.
“How I experience my body yearning for homeostasis. Every part of me strives for this balance, the specific vibration of each and every part in me. The vibration is the highest energy connecting every part of me to this need for homeostasis. The yearning in me is of this memory, to return to it over and over again, remembering to come back to the vibration. My emotions yearn for this, every part of me yearns. I notice the psychological is part of this yearning too.”
In 2005, Kalayjian was invited to lecture at Yerevan University in Armenia about G. I. Gurdjieff’s ideas. He was also invited to have a solo exhibition in Yerevan, where he showed his Ray of Creation Series at the National Gallery. This show brought him back to his homeland of Armenia for the first time.
